I was just slacking with my coworker earlier this week when we happen to finish our work early and the guy doesn't have more work for us. So we started some random conversations. Then we got into the topic of earthquake.
We know all too well that earthquake is caused by the interaction between two plates rubbing against each other. Depending on how hard they press against each other, the magnitude of the force is different. But anyways, we know that the earth is put together by several plates. As these plates shift around, the water between them will move up and down. Like a box of water. If you pull one of the sides further out, the water level will drop, since for a given volume of water, if your width increases, ur depth has to go down. Conversely, if one of the sides moves in, the water level will rise. My friend's theory is that the change of water level is caused by the plate shifting instead of mainly global warming, the glaciers melting. He thinks global warming is a scam. Regardless of his theory, he still admits that the glaciers are melting and thus water level is rising. Then I added, doesn't that mean New York City will be flooded as predicted? since it is pretty low ground? He said, yes, that's a possibility.
Now come to think of it.. the reason we had the rainbow is because God made a convenant with Noah that He will not flood the earth again. So, based on what we believe, doesn't that mean global warming won't cause a flood big enough to destroy the earth? maybe NYC will still sink below the sea level... so if water level will rise high enough to flood the whole earth, how much will it cover? um.. ponders ponders...
