So, since i have written anything for some time. i figured this is a good opportunity to write something because a new insight that came to me about the story of Jesus walking on water.
Couple months ago, i think November, i was in charge of doing devotions for choir. i shared about the story of Jesus walking on water and Peter wanting to walk out as well to meet him. During the devo, i talked about how Peter DID indeed walk on water but when he realized where he was, his faith wavered and he began to sink. Then Jesus was like "WEAK SAUCE!" or something to that extent. So my sharing was about how I made the transition between my last part time job at the pharmacy to my current job at the clinic. But during the sharing, I kind of left out a very crucial part as to my reason for leaving the pharmacy. I told them that my manager started to do things more by the book and the flexibility wasn’t there any more. She wanted to move up into head office so she needed to do things more strictly. But the part I left out was that it was affecting my friendship with her. Because she wanted everything done right, I was taking a lot of heat that I never use to get. So I started feeling like if this went on, our friendship might be compromised. So I left without having found a new job. I left with God in mind knowing that he will provide. I told my manager I would stay with her until she found somebody and train them. So I ended up staying there for another month. And by the end of it, I was able to do a week of volunteering at tennis and go to wild camp then start the new job like 2 days later. In my perspective, God was there.
But because I left out that crucial part, everyone was like “o what a kid. You can do that cause you don’t have family, no rush to make money. Blah blah blah. You wouldn’t do that if you had people to feed” so basically life.
Back to the Bible story. My question is, why did God stir up Peter’s curiosity as oppose to the others? I think him being a fisherman has something to do with it. Peter, being a fisherman, knows the nature of water. He knows its strength and he knows its gentleness. Of the twelve, the four fishermen will know water the best because of what they did as jobs. I know I can’t say that matthew or the others didn’t know that water can drown them. Yes, it’s common knowledge that water can drown people. But for peter being a fisherman, he has no excuse of not knowing. That’s where his faith was. His faith was initially strong enough that he was willing to obey. But it was only when “reality” hit that he realized he was on water when he started to sink. I think God wants us to have the same kind of faith. Often times, people will tell us to do things safe because that’s what reality asks of them. I think this is the “child-like” faith we hear so much about. To pretend that reality doesn’t apply to you because with God, all things are possible. And the truth is, reality of the Earth does not apply to us if we seek Him first.
thanks for the reminder. there r times i really want to do some things, but i end up backing out of it, because the worldly standards were holding me back.
