Sin

I've recently read a Devo passage from My utmost for His highest by Oswald Chambers that really caught my attention, and I would like to share with you guys. The devo is from August 15th - Signs of the New birth, the bible passage was John 3:7
"You must be born again" John 3:7

In the devo, Oswald Chambers asked 3 questions: "Is my knowledge of Jesus born of internal spiritual perception, or is it only what I have learned by listening to others?" "Do I seek signs of the Kingdom, or do I perceive God's rule?" "Do I seek to stop sinning or have I stopped sinning?"
Each question was backed up by a bible verse: John 1:12, John 3:3, and 1 John 3:9 (respectively)
What caught my attention was the last question, specifically what he said "...if we obey the life of God in us, we need not sin."

For a very long time, we have been told not to sin, should not sin and do not commit sin, but I have found what Oswald Chambers said is a much more powerful way to not sin. By saying "You should not sin" it is suggested that we have, you will, and/or you would sin. Sin (whatever your sin is) was already conjured up, you were already convicted for your crimes before you were even arrested. "We need not sin" is a much more burden-free, weight-free, pressure-free view to not sinning. And it is true, if we have God in us we have no need to sin. He provides us with everything, and what he provides for us is good to us and beneficial to us. What He provides for us, sin can't even offer. It's not even in the same playing field.

Just remember this, whenever you are tempted, God is in me, I need not sin.

  1. Very inspiring. I need not sin, because I no longer live, but Christ lives in me!
