Hey,

so u dont have to reply my email... just comment...
it supports my conspiracy theory that the whole "green" marketing ideology is a big scam.... all those hybrid cars, when the batteries die, that's probably where it's gonna go... and ppl think they're doing the world a favour...
thanks for sharing, i have seen similar videos, but for ships. It was probably just as bad as this one, disturbing scale wise. Again, they happen in third world/developing countries like Africa/India.
ReplyDeleteSince becoming an EE student, I have always wonder why we don't take environmental science courses, teaching us the environmental impact our designs have on the world. Usually the answers I got was there are the other EE (Envrionmental Engineering) to do the dirty work. Yet, I have been able to spot a single one of them in these videos. It really gets me wondering what are those people are doing...
These videos are probably a slap in the face for most engineers as they are always trained to develop the most advanced, efficient, state of the art technology, yet they are not really thinking about the environment around them. It's rather disturbing. I know currently, the commercial industry is leaning towards environmentally friendly designs, such as using more re-directed sunlight for illumination purposes, not sure how far it is right now.
As to your comment, yes, I believe the hybrid batteries will go with those e-wastes. At this moment, every salesmen are avoiding the question of disposal. Doesn't matter how good they describe the hybrid cars to be, they are not telling you where to throw the battery. They usually say the battery last for a while, don't worry. Or, the engineers have tested and it should be good. (yaa... right.) The engineers, if i am not mistakened, mostly concern about performance over environmental impacts. No company I have worked for puts the environment first. The reason is that, environmentally products don't give high performance in general. Things like paper don't conduct electricty very well.
All this discussion brings back a fundamental question: does the advancement in technology enhance human lives? or does it shift the problems from one area to another?
For example, back in stone age, people concern about rotting teeth, no clothes, no warm homes and prob some hygiene problems. Nowadays, we worry about not looking pretty/handsome, internet failures, power outages, hackers etc.
I have always wonder, where does God involve in this?
