"Love the LORD your God and keep his requirements, his decrees, his laws & his commands always...Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads" ~Deut 11: 1;18
So today I downloaded the Family Feud app on my phone, because, simply put, work was just that busy. Great game. Had a lot of fun. Interestingly one of the topic question that came up was "Name someone who's influence has changed the way we are" Instantly my answer was "Thomas Edison!" which came to like 58 points or something. Second answer that I gave was Albert Einstein. Then I was stuck. For 1 minute nothing came to mind. The answers then rolled in and I was completely stunned by the number 2 answer. Jesus Christ. At first I was pretty amazed thinking "Wow, Jesus was up on that board. In this time and age that is pretty amazing." And then I was ashamed. I thought to myself "Me being a Christ follower, my first answer should have been Jesus!" Oh for shame, for shame! How could I have forgotten all the things that Jesus taught us!
To love your enemies (Matt 5:44)
To not judge others (Matt 7:1-6)
To be a good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37)
To love our neighbours as ourselves (Mark 12:30-31)
All these teachings we learn from when we where kids at school but we don't remember where it came from. I looked at myself and asked me a question "Have a put God above all things?" I want to say "I have" but I got to say "I don't"
It's something that we (or at least I) have often overlooked to do. To seek His counsel before we act. To pray for guidance before we move. To ask for wisdom before we pursuit. The way we live our modern lives have forced us to put a lot of things in front of God and brush Him aside. We worry about our future, what we eat, what we wear, who we talk to and how we talk. Little things in our lives that we miss and forgot to look for God first. For me, there were times where I would not speak to God first, acted, regret my decision after the fact, and then pray to God for help. To be honest, that's kind pointless & dumb. It's like setting yourself of fire and then asking someone if this is safe to do and then ask them to help, after the fire is pretty much out.
This sounds like something that is pretty hard to accomplish, and yes it is if you expect to be changed in an instant. And I would say pretty much impossible to happen. But through prayer, practice and devotion, it's not hard at all.
Keep me in your prayers, help me keep up my readings and devotion time to God. And I pray that we may all remember to put God first.
~Gabe
Oh and the other answers were Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr, & Benjamin Franklin. Yeah...it's very American...
