I was actually looking at the past blog post that we have here in this fine blog. And I've found that we have quite a few post about prayer. I was kinda hesitant about posting another post about prayer, but I though "What the hey, it's useful stuff."
So I've been listening to this Christian radio station, as most of you have known, for quite a while now, and latetly I've notice something. The DJ, who does the 7:00pm prayer over the airways, has a pretty unique way of praying. When ever he needs to pray for something, say for good grades or to lose weight (for a listener), he would say "Lord we give thanks for..." instead of the usual "Lord we pray for..." I found this pretty interesting and this to be a very confident way of praying. Often when we pray (or at least for me), we are not quite sure if God will answer our prayers. Maybe because we think we are not praying hard or loud enough. Maybe because we think our prayers are small and insignificant (which is totally not true at all). But whatever the case is, we sometimes feel that there is a barrier in our prayers. I find that this new way of praying, helps break down that hindrance. By saying "Lord we give thanks for..." when we pray, we have this confidence in our prayer, as if we know that God will answer us. And really, when we pray we should have confidence in what we pray. If you think about it, how could God answer your prayers, when you don't even believe that He will answer them?
Turo mentioned to me, a while back, another thing about prayer. At the end of our prayers we often say, "...in Jesus' name we pray." or, "...in Christ's name we pray." But have we ever thought deep enough about what we say? The phrase "in Christ's name we pray."? Remember that when someone comes to you and say, "I come in blank's name" they are coming to you representing that name. So keep in mind that when we pray, we are praying as if Jesus is praying himself. With that in mind, our prayers should reflect on what God's need is; in other words, what God's need is for us. So when we pray, we are praying for not we want, but what we need.
