Compassion?

So I still remember the Bible Study we had on Friday about Nehemiah and how some of us wanted to develop more compassion towards others. Good timing, in light of what has happened. I find myself wanting to 'feel' more for the Haitians and the tragedy that struck their nation. I want to work on de-desensitizing myself so I can feel what God wants me to feel about his people instead of what the media wants me to feel. Trying to find that God lense.. Does anybody else feel the same?

What can we do? Pray? Donate money? It all seems so far removed.
What would Jesus do?

  1. Thanks for sharing. I'm thinking along the same line too. I don't think I have the answer, or know how to cultivate compassion yet. In the last couple of days, I tried to keep myself up-to-date by following the news closely, looking at the pictures carefully, trying to feel the intensity, and praying for specific needs...food, clean water and clothes get to the needy; orphans, lost kids, family reunites, adoption; disease, healing, disabled, survivors; looting and violence; strength of relief and military workers; the presence of Jesus and the work of Jesus...May more people receive Christ as they cry out to God for help...May He turn all curses into blessings, evil to good...May God speak to all nations, answer our prayers, motivate people of all nations to unite as one to acknowledge God's sovereignty, to pray, to help and rebuild...Until Jesus returns and renew all things, may more people would be saved and united in love...May Jesus' prayer in John 17 be our prayer and motivation...pray that event like this will also speak to us who are in the better part of the world, not take everything for granted, esp His saving grace and salvation...Jesus seeing the "lost" he is overwhelmed with compassion. God bless.
